U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) administers and enforces many laws related to protecting the environment and promoting human health. It does this my developing an enforcing regulations, sponsoring state and local environmental programs, studying environmental issues, and teaching the public about environmental issues.
U.S. Department of Energy
The DOE oversees U.S. national energy policy and energy production, the research and development of nuclear power, other energy-related research, and energy conservation. Among other things, it houses the Office of Environmental Management, whose mission is to complete the safe cleanup of environmental legacy waste resulting from decades of nuclear weapons development and nuclear energy research.
U.S. Department of the Interior
The U.S. Department of the Interior is responsible for the management and conservation of most federal lands and natural resources. Its includes the Bureaus of Land Management, Ocean Energy Management, Safety and Environmental Enforcement, and Reclamation as well as the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
U.S. Energy Information Administration
The EIA provides energy data and analysis on a variety of topics, including international and domestic energy forecasts, environmental concerns, and financial matters.
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
This agency within the Department of Commerce is responsible for understanding and predicting changes in climate, weather, ocean, and coasts; sharing that knowledge and information with others; and conserving and managing coastal and marine ecosystems and resources. Among other things, it houses the National Weather Service.
Data.gov
Data.gov gathers statistics and reports on environment-related topics such as agriculture, climate, ecosystems, and oceans.
American Bar Association Section of Environment, Energy, and Resources
This ABA section has committees dedicated to unique areas of environmental law and provides resources and news updates to lawyers and students interested in environmental law.
EarthJustice
Earthjustice is a nonprofit public interest environmental law organization that seeks to protect people’s health, to preserve habitats and wildlife, to advance clean energy, and to combat climate change.
Environmental Defense Fund
Environment Defense Fund is a nonprofit environmental advocacy group known for its work on issues including global warming, ecosystem restoration, oceans, and human health.
Environmental Law Institute
This non-partisan organization seeks to "make law work for people, places, and the planet." It includes experts from academia, nonprofits, and private industries providing expert information on environmental law.
Sabin Center for Climate Change Law
This program of Columbia Law School gathers information on climate change as well as environmental, energy, and natural resources law. It features secondary publications as well as databases on climate litigation and scientific research.
National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL): Environment and Natural Resources
NCSL is a bipartisan research organization serving legislators and staff of all 50 states. It provides research, technical assistance, and the ability for policymakers to exchange ideas. NCSL includes information on state programs and tracks state legislation through its State Energy and Environment and Natural Resources bill tracking databases.
